DR MUMBO: The two Penelopes; Flatplan fails; Magnificent Markson

Poor old Penelope Cruz. She told News Ltd’s Sunday magazine of the difficulties of being taken seriously as an actor “in films where acting ends up playing second fiddle to having the right hair and makeup”.

Presumably this was a different Penelope Cruz to the one featured 12 pages earlier in a hard-hitting DPS ad for L’Oreal Elvive shampoo in which she announced:

“Royal jelly? For dry hair it’s a first! My hair feels silky and full of bounce.”

A special welcome to flatplan corner to News Ltd, whose teams were clearly working overtime at the weekend.

The Australian delivered a long piece on how high-end property values had slumped in Queensland. Above an ad for “the best in luxury apartment living” in Noosa.

And Sydney’s Daily Telegraph featured a half page item on the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya. Above an ad suggesting: “Get into freelance journalism” .

However, Dr Mumbo’s weekend was much-brightened by an appearance of publicist Max Markson in the pages of the Sun-Herald. The veteran PR proved he was willing to do anything for the right shot, being photographed jumping into in a swimming pool dressed in a natty suit.
