Dynamic Duos: ‘Maybe unicorns do exist after all’

In this week's Dynamic Duos, one green bean's senior content creative, Jack Williams, and creative content producer, Gabi Karney, reflect on their friendship over the past year and how they instantly clicked despite being polar opposites.

In Dynamic Duos, Mumbrella each week asks two colleagues with a professional and personal affiliation to share with readers the importance of workplace relationships in an increasingly hybridised world of work.

Jack Williams:
Gabi and I began working together in 2023, during an exciting and transformative time for the agency. We had recently started offering a more comprehensive content package and were operating with a small, nimble team. In the search for a hybrid social unicorn – someone who could not only manage client accounts but also deliver engaging and playful content – we knew it wouldn’t be easy. As we all know, unicorns are elusive creatures (if you believe in them). But one day, my manager Laura confidently said, “We’ve found her.”

From the moment Gabi walked through the door, she brought an infectious energy and enthusiasm that immediately elevated our content efforts. No challenge was too daunting, no deadline too tight. Whether it was brainstorming, creating on-the-fly content ideas, or leading the production of multi-day shoots, Gabi tackled every task with creativity and grace. Her positivity and can-do attitude not only make the work fun but inspire everyone around her to step up their game, including my own.

What sets Gabi apart isn’t just her content skills or her ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously – it’s her relentless drive for continuous improvement. She’s always pushing herself to learn more and challenging the team to raise the bar. That kind of mindset has had a big effect on the agency. When we look back at our portfolio of work, there’s a clear point where Gabi’s influence begins. The growth in our studio’s output has been huge, and I can’t wait to see our work grow with her leading the way.

It turns out, maybe unicorns do exist after all.

Gabi Karney:

I met Jack on my first day at One Green Bean, he stood out straight away – partly because my manager pointed him out as my allocated ‘buddy’ but mostly because he was among one of the only guys in the office (surrounded by a group of high energy women) sitting cap on, headphones in, highly focused, working on a complex premiere project. By the end of day one I knew I’d learn a lot from Jack and over a year later I can confirm my hunch was right.

Turns out Jack and I are the perfect yin and yang combo. In a lot of ways we couldn’t be more opposite. Jack is a highly technical creative, he’s the master of highly polished content. My specialty is more on the fly, with my iPhone pretty much glued to my hand. Jack is a very private person, I’m an open book. Jack loves a witty one liner; I love a heartfelt speech. Jack brings a calm, steady energy to the office, and I, you could say, bring a bit more spontaneity. This, I can honestly say, makes us one amazing team.

I’ve learnt so much from working with Jack, especially when it comes to pushing creative boundaries while keeping it practical. He’s got this calm, steady approach to everything, which is exactly what you need when agency life gets, let’s be honest – a little chaotic. His technical skills are next-level.

Videography, photography, graphic design, editing – Jack does it all and makes it look effortless. He can take a simple idea and turn it into something that genuinely inspires. But what I most admire about Jack is how down to earth he is (I’m sure he’s going to be embarrassed I’m writing this). From the get-go, Jack has always been there to give me advice, brainstorm ideas, chat long-term career goals, help problem-solve, share his insights and just have a chat. He runs a swim club, bikes to work, does lunch time runs and marathons on the weekend. He emphasises the importance of work life balance, which has been an important lesson for me. In true Jack style, I’ve now taken up riding my bicycle to work. And it changes the whole day.

Although Jack and I may be opposites, what brings us together is our mutual passion for everything creative and our love for creating meaningful content. We both truly put our hearts into the work we do, and have huge ambitions for the future of the Studio team at One Green Bean. My witty one liner jokes have been improving since working with Jack, and in a miracle, I’ve even managed to get Jack filming content on his iPhone. All in all we make a pretty damn good team.

Jack on Gabi:

Most memorable moment with Gabi: Not sure I can pin it down to one specific moment, most shoots that we’re on together have a fun moment. Most recently, shooting some social first content for a client resulted in us shooting in an alleyway, bringing some recycling bins to life in ways I didn’t think I’d be doing in my career, but it was fun, silly and a good time.

Best word to describe her: Enthusiastic – it sounds cheesy, but no job is too big or small regardless of workload for her.

Most annoying habit or endearing behaviour she has: Probably the same – her enthusiasm for work across the agency spreads across whoever she works with, clients included.

Gabi on Jack:

Most memorable moment with Jack: There are too many moments, but one that stands out was on a big production shoot for a brand new client. We’d ordered a small piano to go in the bedroom set – but a grand piano arrived – all hands on deck to squeeze it in. Then the talent dropped a small pin in the carpet. There were seven of us crawling on the ground searching for a pin in the carpet. It just encapsulates how we roll with it together.

Best word to describe him: He’s just Jack.

Most annoying habit or endearing behaviour he has: His rubbish memes.
