eBay appoints Amex’s Julie Nestor as local CMO

Online marketplace eBay has appointed Julie Nestor as its chief marketing officer for Australia and New Zealand.

Formerly vice president of consumer marketing at American Express, Nestor was responsible for launching the first Apple Pay service in Australia along with establishing loyalty programs with David Jones, Qantas, Virgin Velocity and Air NZ.

Nestor fills the void left by Tim MacKinnon who vacated the eBay CMO position when he was promoted to managing director for Australia and New Zealand in September last year.

Prior to joining American Express in 2005, Nestor was head of customer engagement at Singtel Optus.

“We’re excited to welcome Julie to eBay,” said eBay’s Australia amd New Zealand managing director, Tim MacKinnon. “Julie brings a wealth of experience in consumer marketing, loyalty, payments and in partnering with Australian retailers.”

Nestor added: “My role at American Express has given me an understanding of data, online and what merchants need to grow their sales.”

“Retail, especially online, is in an extremely dynamic period and I’m looking forward to working closely with the eBay leadership team to help 40,000 Australian retailers to grow their businesses.”

“There’s never been a more exciting time in Australian retail for businesses and consumers alike.”
