Edelman’s MD of global clients becomes sixth international CommsCon speaker as full program announced

Edelman’s managing director of global clients, Michelle Hutton, has joined Mumbrella’s CommsCon program as its sixth international speaker.

Hutton joins five other international speakers who will take the stage at the event, including Philip Morris International’s senior vice president of global communications, Marian Salzman; FleishmanHillard’s global managing director for crisis and issues, Brian West; The Irish Academy of Public Relations’s director, Ellen Gunning; and Klareco Communications’ Ang Shih-Huei and Mark Worthington.

Hutton will will fly in from London to speak at Mumbrella CommsCon about mental health in the PR and communications industry.

In her session, titled ‘Mind the Gap: Closing the gap between what talent and employers think about mental health’, Hutton will explore why mental health matters and reveal global data from the PRCA that illustrates how stressful PR and communications can be. She will also discuss how gender and confidence can play a role in the issue.

The full session lineup for Mumbrella’s CommsCon has now been finalised with a number of big brands and agencies being added to the program.

Among those joining the lineup are Google ZOO’s creative chief, Dave Bowman, and mattress company Koala’s co-CEO and founder, Dany Milham. Also on the program are TBWA/MAL/ Eleven PR’s group creative director, Russ Tucker and Saatchi & Saatchi’s CEO, Anthony Gregorio.

Bowman, Milham, Tucker and We Are Social’s ECD Phil Shearer will lead a panel discussion on ‘Art versus science: how to conceive and implement and idea’.

The panel will unpack how and where well executed creative ideas start. The industry heavyweights will will discuss various tips, tricks and strategies to help you and your business invent and execute creative ideas.

Mumbrella’s CommsCon takes place on March 22 at The Westin in Sydney, with tickets are on sale now.

Addressing the growth of technology, the audience at Mumbrella CommsCon will also see a panel discussion on ‘PR in the age of the robot – how machine learning, automation and artificial intelligence will shape the future of public relations’.

The panel will be made up of industry experts who are leading the charge in technology, including David Fairfull, co-founder at Metigy AI; Brian Keenan, senior vice president of planning at Weber Shandwick; Mylan Vu, managing director at Hotwire Australia and Shane Allison, CEO of Public Address.

Plus, Mumbrella CommsCon will address metrics, why they still matter and what steps brands can take to improve how they capture and leverage data to track and showcase the value of PR.

The panel will be moderated by independent media industry expert, James Greet, co-founder of Clean Thinking and former CEO of Mindshare and OMD.

Joining Greet on the panel will be Vanessa Liell, CEO at Herd MSL; David Breen, head of corporate affairs at ING; Amanda Behre, head of marketing at Gumtree Australia and Amy Wagner, senior communications manager brands, ANZ at Campbell Arnott’s.

Also confirmed is Nick Fordham, who will will take the stage to explain how his agency, The Fordham Company, got to where it is today, why he focuses so heavily on equity opportunities and the lessons he has learnt from getting skin in the game.

In addition, the audience at Mumbrella CommsCon will learn ‘How to Create a Campaign for Change’ drawing on a case study from the ABC’s Logie award winning series, War on Waste.

A panel session made up of Craig Reucassel, executive producer Jodi Boylan, commissioning editor Stephen Oliver and head of marketing at the ABC Jocelin Abbey will give the audience an opportunity to listen to the team behind the series as they speak about the steps they took to bring this important message to Australian audiences.

Meanwhile the Head to Head live team debate whether PR agencies should lead integrated marketing campaigns has also seen new additions.

Adam Ferrier, co-founder of Thinkerbell and Steven Spurr, CEO of Edeleman Australia have joined CHE Proximity’s David Halter and Alt/Shift’s Elly Hewitt on the yes team.

Making up the opposing no team is Guy Marshall, partner and strategy director at Bashful; Sophie Onikul, head of communications, Australia & New Zealand at eBay and Anthony Gregorio, CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi.

Rounding out CommsCon’s ‘Marketing Collaboration in a Muddied World: Is PR prepped?’ panel is Mim Haysom CMO/EGM of brand and marketing at Suncorp and PHD’s managing director, Mark Jarrett.
