Edge recruits Julian Townley to launch production arm

Independent agency Edge has launched a production arm, Yello, in partnership with Red Engine SCC founder, Julian Townley.

Townley will lead the new venture as executive producer, bringing strong experience in content production, having also co-founded and directed Engine Room Productions.

Yello commenced operating at the start of the year, ahead of its official launch, and has several productions underway already.

Edge managing director, David Stretch said the business would be a “standalone production company” that would work directly with its own clients as well as the Edge team.

“Julian is an experienced operator with great skills and content smarts. Yello provides Edge with the capability to produce content more effectively and more competitively. In this content hungry world, there is an imperative to be able to produce work at pace and in multiple formats. Yello will enhance our agility in this regard and provide clients with a dynamic and simplified production approach.”

Julian Townley said: “I see significant opportunities for a fresh new way of delivering production solutions. We’re setting out to streamline the process from brief, to delivery to distribution. As an agile and wide-skilled production company we want to make it easier to produce great work.”

Townley added that the name Yello was linked to the Edge brand colour, but also served to “signal the purpose behind the new venture. Yello stands out. it’s bright, bold and brings a lot of energy which pretty much sums up our approach”.

Mumbrella spoke to Edge’s new executive creative director, Stu Turner, earlier this month about the agency’s ambition to crack the top 10 creative agencies in Australia over the next three years.

It has been a busy start to the year for the agency, having launched its venture division back in January,

and launching a number of new campaigns, including for Steadfast, Taylors Wines and Bupa Dental.
