Eight projects and $80m investment for NSW

The NSW Government announced it has helped to secure work on eight projects, which represent more than 800 new jobs and an $80 million investment in the state.

Some of these projects had already been annouced by Encore, such as Walking With Dinosaurs 3D (VFX by Animal Logic and “some location filming), Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger (with Fuel VFX working on the Marvel blockbusters), as well as the TV series Underbelly: Razor and Crownies.

The projects have received incentives from the Government’s $20 million Film Fund and the Industries Assistance Fund.

More information about the projects, and the involvment of NSW companies:

  • Walking with Dinosaurs 3D – A $65 million 3D feature film based on the BBC series Walking with Dinosaurs. 3D animation and visual effects work will be led by Animal Logic, supporting 140 jobs with some location filming also taking place in NSW;
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 – Animal Logicwill undertake 3D conversion work, employing up to 75 people through to June 2011, including up to 50 CGI specialists;
  • Prometheus –Ridley Scott’s 3D film; Fuel VFX will support visual effects work on the film, employing 44 visual effects specialists from January 2011 to March 2012;
  • Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, 35 jobs at Fuel VFX;
  • Home –Animal Logic’s 3D animation and VFX for a theatrical short feature as a pilot for a large budget digital animation. The pilot will employ 40 people from January to August 2011;
  • Underbelly: Razor – Screentime’s new 13-part series with approximately 120 cast, 65 crew and 800 extras. Filming will start at the end of March.
  • Crownies – a 22-part legal TV drama series by the ABC will be filmed in Sydney and will employ approximately 200 cast, 125 crew and 1800 extras.
