Hungry Jack’s invites customers to vote for a hamburger in new campaign
Hungry Jack’s has weighed in to the election campaign with its own effort calling for Australians to vote for the whopper for PM.
The campaign includes a 30-second ad, website and social media support highlighting that Whopper has a “great pair of buns” and that it makes “mincemeat of the competition.
Consumers going to the Whopper for PM site are given the chance to cast a vote for a number of candidates including Turnbull, Shorten, Di Natale, Joyce and the Whopper.
Voters trying to vote for the real candidates are told they have chosen the wrong person and should try again, with votes for the Whopper giving people the chance to win rewards such as meal upgrades.
The burger chain also announced it has big plans if ‘elected’ with a Hungry Jack’s drive-thru planned for Kirribilli House.
The 30-second TVC highlights ‘voters are looking for candidates with honesty, integrity and no hype’ and ends with the line: ‘It’s time for better’.
It includes a parody of the political advertising identity line: ‘Authorised by millions of people who love the Whopper. Spoken by a man with a very deep voice’.
The campaign was created by social agency Channel T with media planned by Maxus.
This ad is a beauty! I thought it was a real campaign ad right up until the part about no added hormones. Perfectly executed.

On Twitter this campaign keeps dropping into the auspol hashtag community (the third largest & most active Twitter community globally and the largest political # globally*)
It is also appearing in the #ausvotes feed (# set up by Twitter for the Election)
In my opinion planners have not read the tone and mood of these # communities accurately at all. This is a campaign which could go quite wrong in these environments – and is being largely ignored.
*may be getting gazumped at the moment due to US Election.

I guess this is bang-on strategy.
After all politicians and PMs in particular are known for their whoppers. Next move – how about ‘pork barrel’ flavoured whoppers.

One of the best fast food ads that I have seen and the finishing comment “Spoken by a man with a very deep voice” is classic
