Emma Chow to join Jimmy & Nath on 2DayFM Breakfast

2DayFM’s host of Mornings, Emma Chow, will be moving into the Breakfast slot for 2025, joining hosts Jimmy Smith and Nathan Roye.

Chow announced this week that her weekend program, the Mike E & Emma Show, would be winding up after 14 years together, but didn’t reveal further details.

Now the station has revealed she will be joining Breakfasts, with her co-host Mike Etheridge to “continue to play a key role at SCA in 2025”, according to 2DayFM, “with further details to be announced”.

This is the first official announcement that Jimmy & Nath will be continuing in the Breakfast show on a permanent basis, despite SCA’s chief content officer Dave Cameron confirming the news to Mumbrella last month.

After a five-month stint filling in on 2DayFM Breakfast in late 2024, following the abrupt, mid-week exit of Hughesy, Ed and Erin, Cameron told Mumbrella the pair would continue in the slot permanently.

“Jimmy and Nath have done a great job filling in the last five months. They’ll continue on next year,” Cameron told Mumbrella in December.

“They’re highly commercially attractive,” he explained. “They’re doing a style of radio at the moment that is not being done in the city.

“It’s fresh in a market that hasn’t really had much change for many, many years.”

Cameron explained this is part of SCA’s overall plan, in “evolving the industry bit by bit, by bringing new voices in and doing something different in each of these markets.”

“So Jimmy and Nath will continue on. We’ve been really happy with what they’ve done so far.”

This need for evolution was behind the original decision to replace Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee, and Erin Molan, with SCA chief John Kelly explaining to Mumbrella at the time they needed a show that attracted the 25-54 demographic.

“We need to drive results that deliver, in a profitable way, the audiences that matter,” he said.

“And clearly, we made a decision that it was time for change.”

Part of this decision is bringing over Emma Chow, who spent a decade as one half of the iconic Mike E & Emma show on Edge 96.1, before joining 2DayFM as hosts of Mornings in 2024.

“To say this is a dream come true is an understatement,” said Chow.

“I set my alarm to listen to 2DayFM breakfast every morning before school when I was a kid, so this all feels very surreal. I love Sydney, and I can’t wait to bring my ‘I’m not a regular Mum, I’m a cool Mum’ (I think?) energy to Jimmy & Nath. Let’s do this!”

Roye called Chow “a fantastic radio presenter who will play an instrumental role in the Jimmy & Nath show’s future,” adding: “We definitely misbehave more than her kids, which she has now contractually accepted.

“Hopefully in 2025 parents will be turning 2DayFM up across Sydney to block out their kids’ backseat rants – just like my mum did.”

Cameron said of the new breakfast team: “We’ve been excited to hear Jimmy & Nath bring much-needed energy and a creative buzz to Breakfast that Sydneysiders deserve, during their past five months filling in on 2DayFM Breakfast.

“Now with the addition of Emma Chow’s energy and spark – who is already familiar to Sydney Breakfast listeners – this show is an exciting confirmation for 2DayFM Breakfast moving forward.

“There has already been strong interest from our commercial clients who are hungry to be a part of this brand safe, fun and vibrant new way for Sydney audiences to wake up.

“We’re really pumped about the new shape and approach that 2DayFM is beginning to take this year to do something different in Sydney.”
