The announcement:

Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder’s series GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM has won one of the world’s most prestigious television awards the International Emmy®.

The award was picked up for the category ‘Non-Scripted Entertainment’ with the other nominees coming from South Africa, Colombia & Israel.

GO BACK Series 2 followed six prominent Australians, all with divergent political views, as they undertook a dangerous journey to investigate the lives of refugees and asylum seekers. Their visits to war zones, hospitals, refugee camps and people smugglers proved challenging and highly emotional – often re-shaping deeply held views on the subject.

GO BACK Series 2 had the nation talking, winning wide acclaim when it screened on SBS Television in Australia. It remains one of the network’s highest rating shows. The six participants featured in series 2 were Peter Reith, Imogen Bailey, Angry Anderson, Michael Smith, Catherine Deveny and Allan Asher.

The win was announced in New York today at the 41st International Emmy® Awards. CJZ Creative Director & Executive Producer Michael Cordell was there to collect the award.

“It’s great to see an original Australian show resonate so strongly around the world,’ said Cordell. “We’re incredibly proud of this series. To be nominated was wonderful but to win is sublime. It’s a credit to all the participants and our entire production team that they helped shape such a powerful story. Special thanks to SBS for backing such a bold piece of television.”
