What do you know about drugs at work?
Mumbrella’s analytical sister title Encore is currently researching the issue of drug use within the industry, and would like your point of view.
The article will look at which drugs are being used and the reasons behind it. It will also explore whether this is an issue which is more associated with the industry of the past.
If you could spare about five minutes, please complete Encore’s survey by clicking on the link below. Your answers will remain anonymous.
Sad state of media in AU is that most people can’t afford cocaine in a useful quantity at work.
Here it is $350 a gram for some ropey product whereas in London it is only £50 and much better quality.

Stand by for the police to charge up and demand all the IP addresses of those who do the survey. No, not kidding.

I worked in men’s magazines for 12 years and can’t remember a single day of it!!!!!!!!!!

Waiting for Ministers Jason Clare and Stephen Conroy to call a dark-lit press conference with four or five grim-faced media moguls and a bunch of ACC suits to announce the Blackest Day for Australian Media, Entertainment and Arts.
Cue Julia Gillard chiming in from Rooty Hill RSL shaking her head in disbelief against a background of chinking pokie machines and calling for people to out themselves “before we come and get you”.

In my admittedly limited experience, it is the people doing really boring repetitive badly paid work who need to take drugs.

I’m on the record as supporting pot: https://mumbrella.com.au/your-audience-is-stoned-66592
I loathe McCarthy-style “let’s whip up drug frenzy” journalism (which this smells of… though I hope it won’t be). So out of curiousity I just did the survey.
Two issues: 1) you don’t clearly define “drug” prior to asking questions; and 2) you don’t include alcohol as a “drug”, even though any public health doctor will tell you that the total cost and damage that alcohol inflicts on a population far outstrips that of any other drug.

The piece that comes from this story would be far more interesting and honest (in my POV) if it ranked and compared illegal drug use to legal drug use…. because what you’ll find is that marketing – like the rest of Australia – has a booze problem. Not a “drug” problem.
I hope you handle this story responsibly, including how you handle the “statistics” your survey will generate.
Peace, love and mung beans.

One more thing… I just went to redo the survey, and it let me.
Make sure people don’t “game” the stats by doing the survey over and over… like I’m about to do.
(Kidding.)

Why? I’m merely pointing out that the industry in AU can’t afford to have a useful drug habit.
Let’s drill down: $350 per day assuming one cut & low quality gram. Say 200 working days after quite a few doona days which they allow here.
200 x $350 = $70,000 on coke for the year and that’s just at work. More than most agency people earn before tax, let alone after.
That would only cost $15,000 in London for better product and, therefore, productivity, creativity and sheer energy.
Those days I could conceive, create, plan, execute and report on your campaign in under an hour. Bosh!

@Tom
I agree with you Tom
Marketing alcohol and caffeine (have you seen people who drink vodka Redbull all night long and then cannot sleep)?
Perspective is needed in “drug surveys”. I hope this one is not ‘just another drug survey to be taken with a pinch of salt’.
