Ex-Buzzfeed sales chief David Nemes joins data storytelling platform Nugit

Data storytelling platform Nugit, founded by former Maxus APAC search boss Dave Sanderson, has appointed former Buzzfeed sales chief David Nemes as its first country manager.

Nemes joined Buzzfeed in 2015 as the platform’s first sales head, leading commercial operations across Asia Pacific. Prior to Buzzfeed he spent six years at LinkedIn, joining as part of the foundation team in APAC.

Nemes left the publisher in May 2018 amid conversation he was frustrated by the management of the local arm. Months later the publisher had axed a large number of personnel from the business.

Sanderson founded Nugit in Singapore in 2013 and brought it to the Australian market in 2018. Since its launch, the platform has welcomed Kellogg’s, Wired Agency and Resolution Media to its client list, alongside existing clients Johnson & Johnson, Audi and Health Engine.

Nugit allows enterprises, agencies, publishers and tech companies to automatically turn their data into shareable and interactive data stories. In the time since its launch the company has reported fivefold growth.

Sanderson said that Nemes was joining during an important time for Nugit and that his appointment would help the platform expand.

“Australian businesses are still drowning in data. Dashboards have proven to be a poor substitute to data storytelling, but there’s not a lot of options to achieve this without the burden on analytics teams,” said Sanderson.

“Our technology is built to address this problem. We’re excited to have someone with David’s track record and passion for what we’re doing on the ground ready to help every Australian business become a great data storytelling business. We welcome him to the team.”

As country manager for Australia and New Zealand, Nemes will continue to build Nugit’s market presence, drive commercial growth and build out the local team with a client services manager to be appointed in the coming months.

Nemes said: “I’m very excited to be joining the Nugit team. They’ve built an amazing product that I wish I had access to in my previous roles. With the amount of data that companies are now gathering, it’s more important than ever to have the right tools to make sure people across the business can not only access this data but also make sense of it, quickly.”

Sanderson will share his story on founding Nugit, ‘How I accidentally built a global data storytelling platform’ at the Mumbrella 360 conference on 5 June at 4pm. Tickets are still available.
