Ex-MCM boss Simon Joyce emerges as MD of Brand New Media
Former MCM Entertainment boss Simon Joyce has emerged after ten months on gardening leave as the new managing director of Brand New Media in Australia and New Zealand.
Joyce suddenly departed as CEO of MCM, which recently rebranded to Authentic, last October after 13 years with the radio and digital content company. Brand New Media creates branded content and strategy for channels, and runs assets including TVNZ and HbbTV play HealthyMe TV in partnership with Seven.
His first job when he takes up the newly created position for the company will be a “sales and strategy restructure”.
CEO of BNM, Perry Smith said: “It’s a great privilege to have Simon join the BNM Global Executive team to run our Australian and NZ business. He is a proven leader and his experience in creating and monetizing content for brand and broadcaster will drive our business to new levels.”
He added: “I am incredibly excited to be joining brand new media. With an end-to-end entertainment video content offering that delivers brands the right balance between creative, technology, and strategy; they epitomize a modern branded content developer. Combining this with key broadcast partnerships including 7, Prime and TVNZ, brand new media have genuine momentum and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build on this strong foundation and lead the business in Australia and New Zealand.”

Don’t make too many changes. I saw a rep from there the other day, very good.

Are BNM a buyer or a seller? I am a bit confused as I understood they provided the accreditation for D212 to allow them to buy (ie Barry O’Brien’s outfi)t? Can anyone please clarify? I don’t really want to buy off someone who is effectively servicing a competitor.

That is great news for Brand New Media!! When I worked there, we did a good job getting out to market but someone with a reputation like Simon will only help take BNM to the next level! CONGRATS.
Also Sam F, BNM produce content & distribute through IPTV, TV & digital outlets however in terms of traditional buying, BNM have an internal specialists buying NZ media for Australian advertisers (so they book ONLY NZ media for D212). They also buy ‘half hour’ Direct Response slots in Australia for a few key clients. It’s really not in competition with any Aussie agencies & you should give one of the reps a chance to explain 🙂
