Ex-Red Agency GM Aaron Crowther joins Magnum & Co., as GM

Magnum & Co., has appointed former Red Agency general manager Aaron Crowther to the newly-created role of general manager.

Crowther joins the agency after departing Red Agency in May where he had worked for a year-and-a-half. Prior to Red Agency, Crowther was the group business director at Magnetic Content for a year and before that he was the group business director at Max Australia for a year and a half.

At Magnum & Co., Crowther will take on the day-to-day responsibilities of running the company, working alongside owners Michelle Hampton and Katie Barclay and will be focused on the continuing development of the agency.

Speaking with Mumbrella, Hampton said: “What was really interesting in Aaron, and the reason we were interested in him in the first place, is that he has incredible experience, particularly around leading teams that view change and disruption as a competitive advantage.

“We have grown a lot over the last couple of years and given change and staying attuned to the dynamics and how much the industry is changing, it became important to us to change with the industry and stay at the forefront. For Katie and I it became really important for us to focus on the bigger picture. In order to do that, we needed to make a senior hire.”

Crowther said he is “impressed” with the “maturity of the thinking” at Magnum & Co.

“I was looking for something fresh. I was also looking for people that shared my vision and the right kind of culture of the business,” he said.

“I’ve been really impressed with the maturity of the thinking in the Magnum & Co., model. The aspiration to be a true leader when it comes to integrated and drive as much organisational value as it is communications value in the work that we do is something that really aligns with what I’m about.”

The appointment follows on from the agency rebranding in October last year, ditching the PR from its name as it moved further into social and content.

Hampton said: “With the rebrand, the reason why we did it we wanted to make sure what we were doing internally was outwardly reflected, we obviously dropped the PR from our name. What’s really good validation about how effective that has been is that we have started to win some really interesting integrated work.

“We’re working with Carlton & United Breweries, we’re doing a really interesting project with the Yates as well. It’s really good that we have that validation as with both of those projects we are looking at how we can tell our clients stories through content marketing and influencer marketing – it’s a really good sign we’re moving in the right direction.”

Magnum & Co’s key clients include Red Bull, Carlton & United Breweries, Oakley, Reebok, 3M and Under Armour.
