Facebook and Instagram release Green and Gold face filter

Facebook and Instagram have announced the release of the Green and Gold face filters and profile frames to show support for the Australian Olympic Team.

Facebook and Instagram, which are both owned by Facebook Inc, have created the filters so Australians can express their fandom virtually.

Matt Carroll AM, CEO of the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), said: “We encourage Australians to get behind the Australian Olympic Team by turning Facebook and Instagram green and gold with the official Australian Olympic Team filters, profile frames, and using our #TokyoTogether hashtag. Let’s turn our feeds Green and Gold to show we are with the team in Tokyo.”

Will Easton, managing director, Facebook Australia and New Zealand, said: “Sports have the unique power to build community and bring people together. We’re excited to support the Australian Olympic Team and help athletes stay connected with their communities back home.”

“277 million people had 1.5 billion interactions related to the Rio 2016 Olympics on Facebook alone. With this year’s Games taking place without an Australian crowd to support our team in the stadium, it is more important than ever to show support to our athletes through technology and digital communities. We very much hope our platforms can help people around the world enjoy the events safely and we look forward to celebrating the human achievement, optimism and progress the Games represent.”
