Scott Muller joins SCA in new head of insights role

Respected radio programmer and consultant Scott Muller has been tapped by Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) to lead the radio network’s content insight strategy in a newly created role.

Muller will become head of content insights at SCA, which will see him lead the delivery of research-driven, practical, and relevant insights across all SCA’s audio assets to the content leadership team.

Muller will also work alongside the SCA iQ team, to help generate insights in inform content-related decision making, across the Hit and Triple M networks, as well as LiSTNR. He will report directly to SCA head of corporate strategy and major projects David Prime.

SCA chief content officer, Dave Cameron, said: “Scott’s deep knowledge and experience across the broadcast industry both domestically and globally, combined with his analytical expertise in content creation and audience behaviours across both linear and digital audio, will bring rich critical thinking to SCA’s ongoing digital audio transformation.”

In his more than 30 years as a content specialist in the industry, Muller is widely credited with turning around many struggling radio stations, both in Australia and the UK. In 2019, he was named on Radio Today’s list of the Top 40 Most Influential People in Australian Radio.

Muller’s significant experience in programming includes time in various content director roles for SCA (then Austereo) in the 90s, where he led stations including 92.9 PMFM Perth, 96.1 Triple M Perth, 96FM, Fox FM, stations in Canberra, and more.

Muller spent five years as the program director at DMG’s Nova 96.9 Sydney from its launch year through to 2006, helping lead the station through its most successful era.

Since then, he has served as program director at Triple M Sydney, and through his MBOS Consulting business, spent time in program director roles at Nova 93.7 Perth and Australian Radio Network’s WSFM Sydney.

He has also has multiple stints in England, including as program director at Capital Radio London and as programme controller for the GWR Group’s network of 35 Mix radio stations.

Muller said: “The transformation of SCA into a digital audio led business and the recent launch of LiSTNR makes it an incredibly exciting time to join SCA.

“I bring a deep understanding of radio and audio content and combining that with the rich audience insights from SCA iQ will help deliver world class, innovative content choices for listeners and I’m looking forward to working with the team in the new role.”

His appointment is effective 26 July.
