October 27, 2011: Fairfax Media Metro Division today announced the appointment of Rick Gleave to the newly-created position of Mobile Director.
Gleave, a senior mobile professional with extensive mobile publishing experience in both the UK and Australia, will focus on the strategic product development, monetisation and audience growth of mobile publishing initiatives across Fairfax Metro titles.
Metro Division Digital Publisher, Jane Huxley, said: “Rick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new role and we’re very pleased to welcome him to Fairfax.
“Mobile publishing is one of the most exciting growth areas for the Metro Division and with his successful track record of launching mobile products and services for major media organizations, Rick will play a pivotal part in helping us maximize the potential of mobile,” Huxley said.
Gleave moved to Australia in 2002 from the UK, where he held several senior roles at The Press Association over seven years.
He joined AAP in Sydney where he was Commercial Manager for AAP New Media, before joining News Ltd.
Between 2005 and 2007, Gleave was Head of Mobile at News Digital Media, where he introduced News Ltd to a number of mobile initiatives across its various titles, thereby opening up a new distribution network and audience and creating additional revenue opportunities.
Gleave returned to the UK in 2007 to introduce & launch a significant number of mobile sites and apps for key national and regional titles within the Trinity Mirror Group, and to lift revenue levels for a number of interactive services, both online and in print.
“I’m incredibly pleased to be joining Fairfax at a time when mobile publishing has such an exciting future. Fairfax is one of the world’s great publishing companies and the scope for the development of mobile as one of the core businesses within the Metro Division is enormous,” Gleave said.
Great news – I surf the internet a lot on my phone and its annoys me that major news websites don’t have mobile friendly sites. I hope 2012 see’s a change.
