Fairfax Magazines has appointed Ben McKelvey editor of The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald’s Sport & Style magazine three months after the controversial departure of Nik Howe from the role.
McKelvey has most recently worked as a freelance writer. Prior to that he was features editor at Ralph magazine and editor of Juice magazine.
Howe, the launch editor of Sport & Style, left the publisher in December to oversee his own branded content agency.
However at the time Lisa Hudson, Fairfax Magazines chief executive and publisher told Mumbrella: “He did not quit. He was fired for misconduct. He was dismissed.”

Howe, also a former Time Out editor, last week unveiled his latest project – online men’s magazine Buck. It is aimed at 25 to 45 year olds and targets fashion, lifestyle and entertainment advertisers.
Sport & Style launched in March last year and is published on the first Thursday of each month in The Sydney Morning Herald, and first Monday of each month in The Age.
