Fairfax Media launches mobile ad unit on Weatherzone app
Fairfax Media has launched a new mobile ad unit that will take over the entire background of the Weatherzone app for its launch advertising partner Telfast.
‘The Eclipse’ mobile ad unit will use a ‘Pollen Index’ to deliver ads promoting Telfast hay fever products to Weatherzone app users on high to extreme pollen days.
Fairfax Media mobile commercial manager Stewart Heys said: “This ad unit combines a huge screen real estate, with the ability to target the weather conditions and location data on our Weatherzone product.
“The Eclipse is another example of our commitment to delivering unique advertising solutions that engage consumers on mobile devices.”
The branded background will be able to be clicked on by users for information on where they can buy the hay fever products.
Weatherzone head of product Todd Baker said: “The Eclipse is a non-invasive ad unit that sits behind the app’s content, adding to the user experience with relevant information based on the conditions.”
Perhaps Fairfax can also bring back the Weatherzone desktop widget for PCs which they discontinued three years ago forcing everybody to download it from dodgy, ad and virus-filled sites. And they can also bring out an updated version of the Weatherzone app which doesn’t revert to Melbourne weather details every few days.
