Fairfax’s group ad sales director Sandra Scott joins digital creative platform Bonzai

Sandra Scott, Fairfax Media’s group advertising sales director of nearly three years, has moved to Bonzai where she will take on the role of director of customer growth for agencies.

Bonzai is a self-serve creative platform designed to allow publishers, agencies and marketers to design data-driven experiences as well as programmatic, display, video and native creative. It currently partners with publishers including Fairfax, News Corp, Yahoo7 and Nine.

Scott was responsible for agency group sales in her role at Fairfax and will now focus on developing Bonzai’s agency business streams.

VP of global sales for Bonzai, Rupert Pay, said Scott’s role had been created to buck the trend of technology companies working with agencies, whilst also attempting to pinch their clients.

“Unlike many tech businesses in our industry, we firmly believe in the role of agencies and as such, won’t emulate competitor strategies of trying to acquire additional agency business whilst going behind the same agencies’ backs, and approaching their clients directly. This is why this role exists,” he said.

“Sandra is highly regarded at an executive level by agencies across Australia, and is therefore perfect to lead the charge in developing Bonzai’s agency business streams. Local premium publisher experience is often lacking in technology companies, so this, coupled with her excellent team management skills make her ideal for the role, and for Bonzai’s next level of growth.”

Scott said Bonzai’s approach to transparency was a key attraction of the role.

“What attracted me to Bonzai was their impartiality in the way they conduct their agency business. You’ll always have stronger relationships with some agencies over others, but Bonzai can look every agency in the eye, knowing that there is no conflict of interest with other agencies due to financial backing. It makes my job so much easier and allows us to work much more transparently, which we all know is an ongoing issue in our industry.”

Bonzai is headquartered in Singapore with offices in Sydney and Pune, India. Scott begins her role in February.
