Family films Inside Out and Minions top box office ahead of second instalment of Magic Mike
Disney Pixar’s Inside Out leapfrogged Minions and Terminator: Genisys as it topped the local box office with takings of $4.313m across 452 screens at the weekend.
The performance of the 3D animated family comedy drama, which took total takings to more than $25m, kept male stripper film Magic Mike Xxl off the top spot in its opening weekend.
The Channing Tatum vehicle drew $4.1m across 401 screens on its opening weekend as the third biggest movie of the week, behind Minions in second spot with takings of $4.186m, which lifted total ticket sales to $27.8m as school holidays came to a close.
Terminator; Genisys, which showed on 460 screens, was relegated to fourth spot in is second weekend with takings of $2.853m. The fifth outing of the sci-fi saga has now taken a total of $10.585m at the local box office.
Jurassic World continued to tail off after after drawing $2.742m across 404 screens with total takings now close to $50m, while Ted 2 pulled in $1.265m over 296 screens.
The antics of the talking teddy has now taken a total of $10.549m.
