Federal Government launches Voice referendum information campaign

The Federal Government has launched its public information campaign for the upcoming referendum on the Indigenous Voice to Parliament, due later this year.

The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) said the campaign aims to ensure people have access to trusted and factual information, centred around a dedicated web resource, voice.com.au, promoted via television and radio commercials.

The site hosts resources to help Australians learn about the proposed change to the Constitution and the Voice referendum proposal, including:

  • Explainer animations
  • Conversation guides
  • Infographics/posters
  • Fact sheets (including Easy English)
  • Social media materials
  • Audio files
  • Translated resources
  • Dedicated First Nations resources
  • Auslan videos

“All Australians need to be well-informed with access to a trusted source of information as they consider the proposal to change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia through a referendum,” Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney said.

“I welcome the launch of this information campaign which will reach audiences of every background and is a key step in preparing the country for this national conversation before voting day.

“This is one part of the broader Referendum civics education program with investments made through the Museum of Australian Democracy and the Constitution Education Fund Australia to give Australians everything they need to make an informed decision.”

Also parallel to the campaign is a grassroots civics program delivered by the Museum of Australian Democracy and Constitution Education Fund Australia focused on general information about the Constitution and referendum processes “in the coming months”.
