‘Fierce and feminine’ surfing champ Stephanie Gilmore stars in Nikon campaign

Seven-time world surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore stars in Nikon’s latest latest lifestyle campaign.

In the two-minute launch video, Gilmore showcases the intensity of her training, and how photography provides a creative outlet from the pressure of day-to-day life.

The campaign was created by Wunderman Thompson. JWT won the creative account for the camera brand in 2016. Wunderman and JWT merged at the end of last year to create Wunderman Thompson.

The campaign video and all accompanying ads were filmed exclusively on the Nikon Z 6 and Nikkor Lenses.

Nikon’s general manager of marketing John Young said Gilmore was selected because she represented Nikon’s characteristics of power and creativity.

“As a Nikon Brand Ambassador, Steph is a fantastic representation of what our brand stands for. Not only is she an elite athlete who is fiercely committed to her craft and the pursuit of perfection, but she values the power of creativity. This campaign shows this balance in action, and we are proud to have her lead the campaign and inspire consumers to pursue their passion and share their stories,” Young said.

Wunderman Thompson chief creative officer Simon Langley said: “Not surprisingly, the imagery captured by the Nikon Z 6 was absolutely stunning and documented Steph’s life, training and personal passions in a genuine and engaging way. We’re proud to partner Nikon on this campaign and hopefully encourage others to see the value in capturing all of life’s moments.”

60 and 30-second ads will be running across social and display on Nine in partnership with Surfing Australia. Four Instragram story ads have also been created.
