Final analogue TV switchoff set for December 10, 2013

Australia’s last analogue TV signal will be switched off on December 10 next year, the Government has announced today.

The final switchoff will take place in Melbourne, with the Sydney switch being thrown a week earlier.

Once all Australian analogue signals are turned off, the digital signals will be restacked, allowing an auction of the spare spectrum which will potentially net the government billions of dollars from telecommunications companies keen to expand 4G services.
