The final instalment of ABC TV’s drama Redfern Now goes into production this week.

The announcement:

The final instalment of ABC TV’s critically acclaimed and multi award-winning drama Redfern Now goes into production this week.

The powerful telemovie entitled Promise Me will explore the impact of a violent crime on two women and the fight for justice that ensues.

This powerful, heartbreaking and yet uplifting story has been written by the AACTA award-winning Steven McGregor, and is being directed by the ADG award-winning Rachel Perkins.

Anthony Hayes, Daniella Farinacci and Genevieve Lemon join the established cast members Deborah Mailman, Wayne Blair, Rarriwuy Hick, Lisa Flanagan, Kelton Pell and Kirk Page who are reprising their roles.

With production commencing on Wednesday 13 August, Promise Me is being produced by Blackfella Films’ Darren Dale and Miranda Dear, line produced by Scott Hartley, story produced by internationally acclaimed writer Jimmy McGovern, and executive produced by ABC TV’s Sally Riley and Screen Australia’s Erica Glynn.

“The ABC is thrilled to have Redfern Now back in production. The story will resonate with the fans of the show and is ripe for our favourite characters to further develop in the telemovie format. This will bring to a close the Redfern Now franchise, but the ABC’s commitment to Indigenous content and the development of the Indigenous screen industry in the future will continue”, says Riley.

Celebrated by audiences and critics alike, and recipient of both the 2013 and 2014 Most Outstanding Drama TV Week Logie Award, Redfern Now is produced by Blackfella Films in association with ABC TV and Screen Australia.
