Final speakers announced for Mumbrella’s Sports Marketing Summit on Wednesday

Former AFL footballer turned sports marketing honcho Fergus Watts is joining the panel discussion on sports rights at Mumbrella’s Sports Marketing Summit which takes place this Wednesday.

Bastion Group CEO Watts joins former NRL interim CEO and current co-managing director of Repucom Shane Mattiske and Nine Network Melbourne managing director Ian Patterson to discuss the spiralling market for rights, and what the future holds for them.

Also confirmed for the day, which includes keynote presentations from Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop and All Blacks commercial head Todd Barberel, are Golf Victoria’s Greg Oakford, M&C Saatchi Sports & Entertainment general manager Jack Lamacraft, V8 Supercars comms chief Nick Johnston and former head of comms for the Cricket World Cup John Kent.

Lamacraft joins a panel including former SBS football host Les Murray and Havas Media’s Mike Wilson looking at the fallout from the recent FIFA scandals, hosted by former global head of sponsorship for Visa Andrew Woodward.

Audi Australia’s first major foray into sports sponsorship, a large scale activation for the International Champions Cup trophy in Melbourne, is the subject of a case study session by Tongue founder John Du Vernet.

RadiumOne’s Adam Furness and renowned neuroscientist Dr Peter Steidl will be in conversation around a recent piece of research on the relationship between marketing and fan passion, and how brands can maximise their return on investment around it.

Getty Images’ Thomas Reid will be presenting a session on the power of visual content in sport, and how major codes and advertisers are utilising visual content to enhance their content offerings.

V8 Supercars’ Johnston will be talking about guidelines on issues management developed during his time at the AFL, while John King will be looking at developing a crisis communications strategy for large events on the crisis communications panel. They join Cricket Australia’s Jonathan Rose, who will be talking about the organisation’s handling communications after the death of Philip Hughes last year.

Golf Victoria’s marketing and commercial director Greg Oakford joins a panel including Carlton & United Breweries’ sponsorship boss Chris Maxwell and MCN’s Martin Medcraf looking at the evolution of sports sponsorships.
