Fire up the Quattro: it’s an Uptown TV promo
There’s a fine art to creating the perfect trailer.
Ten often leads the way (the Masterchef promo leaps to mind), although Seven’s had some good recent efforts (Kyle Sandilands dancing, anyone?).
But this effort from the BBC in the UK for the new series of Ashes to Ashes takes some beating. Here’s hoping it gets a run when the series reaches the ABC too:
And for anyone who’s too young to remember what it’s based on:
Gene Hunt as Billy Joel. Marvelous.
Ever since Risky Business and The Big Chill won our hearts with cast members lip syncing to a hit song, everything that followed (and there have been oh so many) was a poor imitation. This is no exception. Sorry, but I just don’t get it and I don’t think it’s particularly catchy or clever, but then I also don’t know the series, so in context it may be brilliant….but I don’t think so.

With no understanding of context, there’s likely nothing to be said (hint to you and Tim)
So, to help you out – Music is key in the series to anchor the period / nostalgia.
My minions in the London sewers tell me that Ashes to Ashes has a popular spin-off series called Sing A Long featuring period music videos introduced by Gene Hunt. Let’s hope that comes over too.
I can see the mp3 sale tie-in already.
