Fitzy & Wippa to Nova Sydney breakfast; Meshel, Tim & Marty to national drivetime
DMG’s Nova Radio has confirmed that its new Sydney breakfast lineup will be the current drivetime team of Fitzy & Wippa – Ryan Fitzgerald and Michael Wipfli.
The duo only took on the drivetime slot in January following Ryan Shelton’s departure to work with Hamish Blake and Andy Lee on TV projects, and Katie “Monty” Dimond’s move to join the Merrick Watts and Scott Dooley Sydney breakfast show.
Monty later left after becoming pregnant. Earlier this week, Nova announced that the Merrick & Dools breakfast show would be coming to an end in a fortnight’s time.
An hour of the Fitzy & Wippa Sydney breakfast show will now be networked nationally from 6-7pm.
Moving into national drivetime will be Nova’s Brisbane breakfast team of Meshel, Tim & Marty – Meshel Laurie, Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold. The last time Sheargold was heard in the Sydney market was the short lived morning version of The Shebang with Fifi Box on Triple M, which had previously been a successful national drivetime show.
Nova’s group programming director Paul Jackson said: “Fitzy & Wippa are a class act. Their talent, chemistry and sense of humor are second to none. They’ll inject some fun and down to earth personality into Sydney breakfast radio like they did in Drive.”
Jackson added: “Meshel, Tim & Marty are strong broadcasters in their own right and a formidable on air team. We’re really excited that Australia now has the opportunity to hear them nationally on the Nova Network.”
The new Brisbane breakfast lineup will be revealed on Monday.
Sounds Different? Sounds Bogan.

Does anyone have a tip on who will be hosting the Nova breakfast show in 2012?

Bogan is the new black and what our country is built on. I was once a bogan and then I though I should conform so I bought a new set of Roger David threads. I never felt comfortable so I’ve embraced my inner bog an again. Long live the bogan!

New breakfast line-up? Best of luck to them…
I’ve got a funny feeling they’re going to need it.
But I’m a MASSIVE fan of Meshel Laurie – with the back up from Can of Worms, Nova might see a boost in drive that they probably need in breakfast…

How can anyone say Wippa is a bogan, he went to the poshest school in the country

Fitzy, as funny as a bag of drowning guide dog puppies. But looking forward to hearing Marty again. Liked him on drive, just tuned out Fifi idiotBox.

How can anyone say Wippa is a bogan?
Probably as they have heard him on the radio.
Boganism is not removed from your genes if you pay $20 000 a year in school fees.
Never more than 2 bogans in a row – Nova breakfast.

Why are radio industry people so negative on every announcement made? I’m glad I don’t work in the industry! I’ve listened to these guys and they’re pretty funny so you have to assume the comments are from competitors. Get over it and respect each other radio people

Love them love the world, love my competitors love myself. I reckon Fitzy and wippa are the best radio people in the world. I’m so positive about this that I predict they will be beating vile and splatter o by survey 5 next year. I love you all X

They all have great faces for radio.
I don’t mind admitting Fitzy and Wippa are pretty dang funny most of the time. They seem to engage a broad audience, too. I listened to them this week have school kids call in and talk about what they’re up to at school and it was good stuff.
Certainly can’t name many other radio hosts who engage with a teenage or younger audience without crashing and burning, can we Kyle?

Nice move for Tim, Marty and Meshel. I started listening to their podcats as Syd brekkie was woeful. It’s ace, Marty is talent. Good luck guys.

Fitzy & Wippa on breakfast = Worst kept secret in radio. Two of the unfunniest people on radio. dmg you have lost my listening vote forever now.
All hale Steve Jobs for inventing the iPod.

mUmBRELLA must be full of Austereo workers… This is the strongest lineup NOVA has has in a while. M&R was once #1 in Sydney and I wouldn’t be surprised if Fitzy & Wippa end up taking out that title as well. I’m a huge fan of Kyle & Jackie O but I think we all know it’s time for some fresh talent and ideas. Bring it boys and show us what you can do.

I’ve have actually wee’d my pants listening to fitzy and Wippa. It was embarrassing but they are funny bastards. Breakfast laughs again

I’ve asked it before and I’ll ask it again… when will dmg swing the axe on tired old Hughesy and Kate in Melbourne?

I’m a fan of Fitzy and Wippa and Marty. They take the piss out of themselves which is a new concept for the current radio market

@Max T – not so much Austereo workers but more people who appreciate smart, cleverly written humour. The crap that those two push out is lowest common denominator at best.

Meshel is a star and the reason Brisbane breakfast has been so successful for nova. Australia is going to love her

I like the fact that fitzy and Wippa are a different type of show to Kyle and jacki o and that listeners are going to be able to chose between showie celebrity razzle on 2day and down to earth funny and relatable on Nova. It’s good to have options and not 2 of the same thing

@ anon-chan-planner Could we go out for lunch sometime. You sound like a barrel of laughs. Our agency has these guys on the radio everyday and they are gold. And we also like smart cleverly written humor

They’re not funny. At all.
Austereo/ARN must be laughing their arses off.

I love it when our media industry thinks they represent the majority of australian radio listening public. We are much to high brow to listen to commercial fm. Of course we only listen to ABC702.

They are on at our agency as well. They have us in stitches too. That’s because we are cutting out wrists.

Hilarious…these so called ‘bogans’ seem to be rating pretty well.

Can’t believe you take a national network success like fitzy & wippa and then just as it gets a following you only regionalise it. TOP MARKETING strategy NOVA!!!!!!!!!
