Flickerfest announces world and Australian premieres in local program

Bondi’s Flickerfest has announced its Australian program with both World and local premieres on its list of 45 films.

The festival is in its 21st year, and is an Oscar-accredited festival for short films, with world and Australian premieres from the likes of Antony J Bowman, Nash Edgerton, Matthew Jenkin, Mike Hoath, Zak Hilditch and more.

Bronwyn Kidd, Flickerfest’s festival director said: “It’s fantastic to discover and celebrate such great Australian short film making talent in the festival again this year. Flickerfest is proud to be a platform for bold compelling stories told by fresh new storytellers with new perspectives on cinema and the telling of Australian stories on the screen. We look forward to sharing these amazing stories with audiences both over our ten day festival in Bondi and across Australia on our 37 venue national tour.”

Having it’s world premiere  is Three Sixty, written and produced by Antony J Bowman (Paperback Hero) and directed by Daniel Mitchell. The film is a precursor to the team’s  feature Stealing Sam, set to star Ray Liotta and Boardwalk Empire’s Jack Huston.

Also having it’s world premiere is Transmission, by writer/director Zak Hilditch and producer Liz Kearney. The film was part of Screen Australia’s springboard film initiative in 2010. It has led to the team beginning work on These Final Hours in 2012.

Waiting for the Turning of the Earth by writer/director David Evan Giles and producer Anita Cooper. Having its world premiere, the film is about a woman who meets a man, on a brass bed, on the beach.

Nash Edgerton’s Bear, co-written by David Michod (Animal Kingdom) will have its Australian premiere at the festival. The news comes as the film has been selected to screen at Sundance Film Festival in 2012.

Oscar-nominated director Peter Templeman (The Saviour) has written Crosshairs, a revenge film directed by Mike Hoath and produced by Dan Wood. The film will have its Australian premiere at Flickerfest.
