‘Fly and be free’ all you frustrated creatives
There’s a kid in everyone of us they say. And in agencyland, there’s often a frustrated creative inside everyone from the receptionist to the chief executive.
The Brand Shop’s Ashton Bishop and former Bellamy Hayden MD Simon Rutherford, now CEO of Slingshot, think they’ve created a place “where frustrated creatives can be free”.
They’ve come up with the concept of Eric the Circle where you can basically draw your own cartoon and share it with your friends through social media.
But it’s not all just fun and games. Bishop and Rutherford are hoping to turn this into a legitimate commercial vehicle with creations being digitally earmarked to track their usage.
The intention is, when Eric cartoons are used in publishing or merchandising for example, the initial author will get a share in the profits.
A competition and a book are currently in the works to help promote the draw-it-yourself cartoon.
It is early days yet, but Dr Mumbo thinks it’ll need to ratchet up its marketing machine if it plans to dramatically build on its 18 followers on Twitter and nine fans on Facebook.
UPDATE: Dr Mumbo has just been informed that the site now has over 500 user registrations and this week hit the 1,000 mark in daily unique visitors. It creators also say that it has had almost 1,800 creations to date.
It was featured in the Springwise enewsletter this week. 100,000+ distribution in 120 countries should give it a bit of a boost.
