Former Cannes Lions chairman Terry Savage picks up Dentsu consultancy role

Former Cannes Lions festival chairman Terry Savage will be taking up the role of consultant at Dentsu brand agencies, with a focus on creativity.

The association is via a marketing and creative specialist consultancy he started called Savages Unlimited after his departure from Cannes Lions. A statement from Dentsu detailing the nature of the Savage’s role is awaited.

Savage was instrumental in building the Cannes Lions festival of creativity, even if his last few years at the festival were plagued by controversy.

Speaking at the Comms Council Sydney’s Think Long Event in Sydney last year, shortly before his departure from Cannes Lions, Savage had made a case for agencies simplifying processes and reiterating the primacy of creativity.

He said: “We’ve got agencies, we’ve got brands, we’ve got the platforms, and we’ve got consultancies. But the one thing we absolutely know at this point in time is that if creativity is the big differentiator to reaching people, agencies still today have a massive advantage in that regard. And it doesn’t really matter if it’s data or digital, whatever the platform, creativity is still sitting front and centre.”
