Former Seven executive John Fitzgerald arrested for alleged $8m fraud
Seven’s former commercial director of programming, John Fitzgerald, has been arrested by NSW Police.
Detectives involved in the case said it was part of an investigation into multi-million-dollar fraud against the network totalling more than $8m.
In March 2017, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Financial Crimes Squad established Strike Force Hamment to investigate the alleged misappropriation of funds.
NSW Police said following the extensive investigations, the man was arrested this morning, and he is expected to be charged at Burwood Police Station.
Fitzgerald worked for Seven West Media for more than 15 years and was in charge of finances and programming in 2016.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, around that time an audit detected some suspicious transactions, which were eventually referred to police.
The media outlet reports it is alleged Fitzgerald defrauded Seven by creating, approving and then paying false invoices to companies he owned and controlled.
Seven has been contacted for further comment.
Mumbrella not a good idea to be accepting comments on a story that has a court case pending.
