Former Telstra and Foxtel marketer Mark Buckman takes chairman role at OzTam

One of Australia’s most high profile marketers, Mark Buckman, has been named independent chairman of OzTam, replacing Richard Herring who is stepping down after four years in the role.

Buckman will take up the position on November 1.

OzTam chief executive Doug Peiffer said the former Foxtel and Telstra marketer will bring a variety of skills to the role.

“Mark is an experienced executive who understands both the client side of our business and the media and advertising industry’s complex dynamic,” he said.

“He offers fresh insight and a wealth of board advisory and directorship expertise as OzTam progressively evolves its all-screen, cross-platform measurement and reporting service.”

Peiffer said Buckman will also support its mission “to provide independent, robust, transparent and credible data that reflects actual Australian viewing behaviour and meets client needs”.

Buckman is among Australia’s most experienced and respected marketers, with a career spanning more than 30 years.

After a successful period at Commonwealth Bank, Buckman held a number of senior marketing roles at Telstra, where he helped revitalise the brand, before leaving the telco in 2014.

Following a two-year stint in the UK, Buckman joined Foxtel as managing director – customer and retail, a role he held for18 months.

Buckman said: “OzTam is internationally recognised for its world-leading audience measurement capabilities, delivering a complex, highly technical service deserving of industry currency status.

“I’m looking forward to working with OzTam’s leadership team and my board colleagues as OzTam navigates a period of dynamic industry change.”

OzTam’s shareholders, Seven, Nine and 10 networks, paid tribute to outgoing chairman Herring, praising him for overseeing a range of initiatives.

“We thank Richard for his guidance and wish him continued future success,” they said in a statement.
