Former ‘vice agency’ boss joins drugs firm

Ed Commander, the former general manager of so-called ‘vice agency’ G2, has emerged in the marketing department at drugs company PharmaCare Laboratories.

Commander, who left G2 in January not long after the arrival of a new managing director, has according to his LinkedIn profile taken on a role as senior brand manager at PharmaCare, which owns brands including Fat Blaster, Brut, Wart-Off, IntenseX and Nature’s Way.

The Brit caused a stir in June 2011, when he said that G2 wanted ‘vice’ clients such as alcohol or junk foods to join British American Tobacco on its client list.

Commander spent almost three years years at G2, which in recent months has shed staff due to a change in company strategy, not, as Commander claimed, because BAT has curbed spending in the wake of the introduction of plain packaging laws for cigarettes.

He started his career as an account manager at Grey Advertising in London in the nineties, then moved to New York to join Grey’s below the line operation G2. He moved to Australia in 2000, joining Grey in Sydney. He launched the now defunct The Hub Agency in 2009, and an online sock selling business, Black Socks Online, in 2009.

Commander could not be reached for comment.
