Fox Sports launches online community forum The Crowd
Fox Sports has launched a new second screen experience with online community forum The Crowd in a bid to draw sports fans into discussions about everything and anything to do with their favourite games.
The free platform covers all programs, games and discussions on Fox Sports shows, and sees hosts from the shows joining in the conversations.
Ben Kimber, national digital director of sports product for Fox Sports and News Corp said The Crowd integrates Fox Sports digital and social strategies to drive deep engagement with fans.
This has the potential to actually do well – great stuff
Interesting move for Fox Sports to launch a forum.
I’m not sure it will ‘widen its offering for advertisers’ given the quality of unseeded debate often isn’t high.
Display media is about selling contexts as much as audiences, and forums have never been able to hold display media as a result.
But it is good to see Fox Sports coming around to the idea that there is huge power in enabling the voice of sports fans (or the ‘Roar of the Crowd’ as we’ve called it since 2007).
Fan engagement is something The Roar has been focused on since it started and we’ve built a successful business by enabling the fan’s voice in a controlled way. Welcome to the party.
