Fox Sports’ (male) CEO named pay TV ‘Pioneer’ during Women in TV breakfast

The CEO of Premier Media Group (Fox Sports), David Malone, was presented the ASTRA Pioneer Award for his “exceptional contribution” to the subscription TV industry; ironically, the presentation was made during the Women in Television Breakfast that opened today’s ASTRA 2011 Conference.

“This is a great honour and I am extremely grateful to ASTRA and everyone in the industry for this award. I’d like to acknowledge the terrific team at Fox Sports who work with me daily to make it synonymous with the best sports broadcasts on Australian television,” said Malone.

Malone oversaw the transformation of the company, from a single sports channel into a business that now includes Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Fox Sports 3 (and their HD counterparts), Fox Sports News, Fuel TV and Speed. Live coverage increased from 3,700 to 8,500 hours a year, with the company’s turnover reported at $450m for 2011.

Malone sits on the ASTRA board of directors.
