Fox8′s Slide goes transmedia on August 16

Fox8’s original new teen drama Slide, premiering on Tuesday August 16, 7.30pm, promises heavy audience interaction.

Shot entirely on location in Brisbane, Slide is a 10 part series created specifically for Fox8 co-produced by Playmaker Media (David Taylor/David Maher) and Hoodlum (Nathan Mayfield/Tracey Robertson).

Slide is about five teenagers’ move into adulthood with each episode set over 24 hours and built upon a group heist that leads the group into unknown territory.

Described by executive producer David Taylor as embracing a “user-driven approach – we didn’t assume what 17-year-olds wanted in a drama series or how they wanted it, we asked them. We learned from this demographic that they didn’t want it to be bleak and it needed to be like nothing else on TV. Importantly, they wanted a sense of ownership.” As a result audience testing was extremely important to the producers from the beginning of development.

“We at FOX8 have been passionate about Slide since its very beginning,” said Duane Hatherly, Group Channel Manager FOX8, ARENA & Bio in a statement. “Every detail from the young cast, to the locations, shooting style and music right through to the deep online offering has been scrutinised and tailored to our audience to deliver authenticity with a degree of humour. It is one of FOX8’s top priorities for the year and we have high hopes that it will resonate strongly with our audience.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be GenY without transmedia interplay. The audience can follow characters via social media and Tumblr, blogs, even, mySpace (still?). On the show’s official website the audience has access to behind-the-scenes footage, graphic novels, music reviews, games and more.

The show stars Gracie Gilbert as Tammy, Adele Perovic as Eva, Emily Iris Robins as Scarlett, Ben Schumann as Ed and Brenton Thwaites as Luke.

Slide received funding from Screen Australia, Screen Queensland and has international distribution through Fremantle Media Enterprises.
