Foxtel adds catch up movie channels to Foxtel Go – but says not a reaction to subscriber backlash
Foxtel has rolled out catch up movie channels on its Foxtel Go iPad app.
But the pay TV broadcaster has denied it was a reaction to weeks of customer anger after cutting its movie suite from 15 to 11 channels on January 1.
A spokeswoman said it was always planned following the launch of Foxtel Go.
The movies will not be live as other channels are on the app, which will allow people to watch when they want to ie, On Demand.
Foxtel’s executive director of product, Jim Rudder said: “We promised more content and from today all Foxtel Go customers with the Movies subscription package will see the new On Demand movies available in their Foxtel Go app. The movies will be automatically added in the Catch Up section.
“Foxtel Go will also be available next month on iPhone and iPod Touch and soon after that on PC, Mac and Android.”
Makes you wonder why they didn’t launch this together with the new movie channels. Foxtel seems to have got too big with too many internal competing empires and forgotten about the actual subscribers. To launch the new movie channels with such a weak line up of films and while all the senior execs were at the beach just seems like schoolboy stuff.

They’ve done nothing to compensate subscribers using XBox 360 to connect to Foxtel. I contacted them saying it seems unreasonable to be losing movie channels but still having to pay the same subscription fee and have been met with silence. So they’re “Foxtel Go” solution doesn’t quite work for this (soon-to-be-ex) customer.

I agree with Dan. Little has been said about the reduction in the quality of movies since the change. They are woeful compared to pre-relaunch. Not good enough Foxtel.

That”s what you get when there’s no competition – you get screwed.
Optus used to provide a good alternative to Foxtel then they closed their PayTV business and now only rebroadcast Foxtel to their subscribers.
It’s also a joke to count the Channel2 channels as part of the line up – today they added Movie Adventure2 to try to placate us. Big deal!!
AUSTAR is gone (swallowed up by Foxtel). Tarbs is gone. UBI is gone.
As more and more channels become available as “free-to-air”, Foxtel will feel the pain as subscribers – like me – ditch their expensive PayTV subscription for a more modern, albeit, limited free service.

All I can say is I’m glad I read mumbrella! As a Foxtel subscriber I’ve had NO notification of these changes. I went through the movie channels on my favourites and they’d all changed and got new names so that was the first I’d seen of it.
Called them yesterday and after some discussion on what I really watch and my “loyalty” over the years, I’ve downgraded from my previous package and have saved myself $35 a month, plus I still get sports…. toptastic all round.
Cheers mumbrella! Keep up the good work….. heads off to the pub to spend said savings….
