Foxtel offers discounted $30 Foxtel Play subscriptions to Game of Thrones fans

foxtel logo-234x108Foxtel will be offering a discounted subscription for Foxtel Play’s premium movie and drama selection, including Showcase, during the broadcast of season six of HBO’s Game of Thrones.

The show returns to Foxtel screens on Monday April 25 at 11:00am, the same time as the US.

Customers who sign up to Foxtel Play between April 18 and April 29 will be able add premium movies and drama to their first $25 a month genre pick for only $5 extra a month for the first three months.

Last year, Foxtel offered consumers wanting to watch season five of the drama series a special entry price of $30 a month.

Last week, newly appointed Foxtel CEO, Peter Tonah, told The Australian: “We have an opportunity to extend our distribution through multiple channels because there’s a whole bunch of people who want to be able to access our content without being locked in.

“It’s very hard not to lock people in if you’re spending money on set-top boxes and installation. It’s much easier if you can provide a puck-type device.”

Tonagh was named the CEO of Foxtel at the end of last month.

Last year, the premiere of Game of Thrones saw 236,000 national viewers tune in for the fast-tracked episode at 11:00am and 279,000 watch the repeat 7:30pm screening.

The finale of season five pulled in 254,000 national viewers at 11:00am, with 265,000 viewers watching the replay at 7:30pm.

The first five episodes of Game of Thrones season five were leaked to torrent websites just hours before the premiere of the season.
