Foxtel Group bets on Sky Racing with expanded broadcasting deal
Foxtel Group and Sky Racing have renewed their broadcasting deal, with the new partnership seeing live racing coverage now expanding into cafes, restaurants, and gyms.
Under the new deal, Foxtel will continue to broadcast 24/7 thoroughbred, harness, and greyhound racing coverage through Sky Racing 1, Sky Racing 2 and Sky Thoroughbred Central channels.
In additional, Sky Racing 1 and 2 will broadcast in HD for the first time, and Foxtel Business customers, including gyms, shops, cafes, and restaurants, will be legally allowed to broadcast the three racing channels in their venues. This deal excludes licensed venues, which have their own deals in place with Sky.
Foxtel and Sky Racing have held broadcasting deals of some form for over 20 years.
Foxtel Group’s head of sport and content partnerships, Nic Goard, said the addition of racing to its business subscriptions is about “adding value to a premium content offering”.
Sky Racing’s head of media partnerships, Selina Rumble, said in a media release the new partnership “is a great outcome for Sky, Foxtel and the racing industry”, adding: “Our relationship with Foxtel is one of the longest broadcast partnerships in Australian sport and we’re delighted to continue to grow and innovate the way in which all tri-code racing is broadcast and promoted.
“Together we’re bringing live racing coverage into thousands of homes across Australia, complementing our direct distribution of Sky Racing into circa 4000 retail venues and close to 70 different countries.”
