Foxtel hires new chief customer, marketing & revenue officer as Kieren Cooney departs

Foxtel has a new chief customer, marketing, and revenue officer in Hilary Perchard, following Kieren Cooney’s departure to TPG Telecom after more than two years in the role.

Perchard, who will start in March and report to CEO Patrick Delany, joins from Activision Blizzard, where he was chief revenue officer of the  global entertainment company.

Perchard has also held senior roles at Fox Networks Group in the US, and Sky UK. His addition to Foxtel follows a turbulent year for the subscription TV company. It made roughly 300 redundancies and a further 140 stand downs during the pandemic, but launched its streaming service, Binge, struck a big deal with HBO, reported a record 600,000 subscribers for Kayo (after the sports streaming service was initially wounded by the pandemic’s impact on live sports), and launched a new data platform and voice-controlled remotes.

Delany, who remained optimistic throughout the difficulty of 2020, said Percherd has the “experience and track record” to “build on the progress we’ve made in maintaining Foxtel as Australia’s premium subscription television service”.

“Hilary’s appointment provides an opportunity to build on the momentum we have created with a fresh, international perspective that continues to deliver our loyal, premium customers the best of TV and on-demand, all in one place,” Delany continued.

“Foxtel remains our core business within what is now a much larger, more diversified media company. This includes our rapidly growing Kayo and Binge streaming services and our successful advertising business, Foxtel Media.

“Hilary will have end-to-end responsibility for all customer interactions, including Foxtel residential and commercial sales, customer service, loyalty, creative services, marketing and publicity.”

At TPG, Cooney will become group executive consumer, reporting to the CEO and joining the executive team. Delany thanked him for his efforts at Foxtel.

“Since joining us two and a half years ago, Kieren has played a key leadership role in re-setting the strategy for our premium Foxtel business, transforming the operating model for sales, service and marketing and putting in place an outstanding team,” Delany said.

“Foxtel is stronger today, delivering a better proposition to our customers, because of Kieren’s contribution and I thank him for his support.”

In a statement, TPG’s CEO, Iñaki Berroeta, called Cooney “one of Australia’s leading marketing executives” and a “transformational change leader”.

“Kieren will lead our strategy to drive growth, innovation and an enhanced customer experience across our brands,” Berroeta added.

“We always said that we would be a stronger force in the market as a result of the merger, and I’m excited about Kieren’s leadership of our brand and product teams.”

The telco simultaneously announced the impending departure of chief customer officer for Vodafone and Lebara, Ana Bordeianu.
