The annoucement:

FOXTEL today announced that four of Australia’s most successful and popular sporting stars – Geoff Huegill, Leisel Jones, Matthew Mitcham and Steve Hooker – have signed on as official Sports Ambassadors in the lead up to FOXTEL’s history-making broadcast of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games in October.

Huegill (swimming), Jones (swimming), Mitcham (diving) and Hooker (pole vault) will each compete at the 11 day international event, with all favourites to take Gold in their respective events. All four athletes will spearhead FOXTEL’s Delhi broadcast, marketing and promotional campaign.

“Ever since I decided to get back in the pool, my life has changed. Joining FOXTEL as one of their official Sports Ambassadors is a fantastic role in an already extraordinary 18 months. ” said swim star, Geoff Huegill. “FOXTEL’s Commonwealth Games broadcast will show off all of my Aussie team mates but better still, you’ll be able to see them via mobile, online or the TV so you won’t miss any of their amazing moments. I can’t wait for Delhi!”

“Having watched how FOXTEL broadcast all the elite winter athletes at the recent Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, I had no hesitation in signing on to promote their up coming Delhi Commonwealth Games broadcast. You won’t be able to watch sporting events any other way after you see the way FOXTEL do it. Here’s hoping I can give the viewers some great results to watch in Delhi in October” said Olympic gold medal winning diver, Matthew Mitcham.

Already confirmed to attend Delhi as part of FOXTEL’s broadcast team are Sydney 2GB radio host Ray Hadley, sports journalist Rebecca Wilson and Australia’s most successful Commonwealth Games female medallist, swimming sensation Susie O’Neill.

The FOXTEL broadcast of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games will air over 6 new dedicated High Definition Commonwealth Games Channels (separate to FOX Sports) and will begin October 4.
