The A-League finals will be broadcast outside Kayo’s paywall for the first time, with all finals games including the grand final to be available for free on Kayo Freebies.

2020/21 A-League Premiers Melbourne City

The A-League is poised for a captivating Finals Series, culminating in the A-League 2021 Grand Final on Saturday 26 June as the showpiece to one of the most exciting seasons in recent years.

Australian Professional Leagues (APL) today announced that the dates for the A-League 2021 Finals Series have had to be extended due to recent COVID restrictions in Victoria.

With the teams comprising the top six now settled and just a handful of games left in the home-and-away season, APL today said the final outstanding game of the A-League 2020/21 season – Melbourne City FC vs Newcastle Jets – will have to be played after this weekend’s scheduled final round of games due to the lockdown in Victoria.

As a result, APL has had to extend the dates for the A-League 2021 Finals Series to the following three weekends.

Premiers Melbourne City FC and second-placed Sydney FC are certain to host matches in the A-League 2021 Semi Finals, but the jockeying for positions from third to sixth will go down to this weekend’s games.

Once the final positions on the ladder are confirmed, the A-League 2021 Elimination Finals will take place on Friday 11, Saturday 12 and/or Sunday 13 June – the team finishing third will host the side in sixth, while fourth will play fifth.

A week later the A-League 2021 Semi Finals will be on with Melbourne City FC due to host the lowest ranked qualifier on Friday 18 June and Sydney FC also at home against the other qualifier on Saturday 19 June. It is our intent to play the Melbourne City FC-hosted A-League 2021 Semi Final at AAMI Park in Melbourne, however we will confirm the venue nearer the time, pending COVID restrictions in place at the time in Victoria. Sydney FC’s A-League 2021 Semi Final will be hosted at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

The season will then climax in with the A-League 2021 Grand Final to be played on Saturday 26 June.

For the first time, the whole A-League 2021 Finals Series, including the Grand Final, will be available to stream free through Kayo Freebies which anyone can access through the Kayo App or via kayosports.com.au/freebies.

Tickets for the Elimination Finals and Sydney FC’s Semi Final will be available to Club Members from Monday June 7th at 10am AEST and to the general public from Tuesday June 8th at 9am AEST. To say thanks for their support this year, all participating clubs’ members can buy up to two finals tickets each for 50% off*.

Leagues Commissioner Greg O’Rourke said the A-League 2021 Finals Series promised to provide a suitable flourish to a dynamic season. “Everyone has played their part in getting to this point – the players, the fans, and all the staff behind the scenes – and nothing would celebrate such a memorable season than a finals series for the ages,” O’Rourke said.

“We have seen so much exciting young, Australian talent on display this year, and it’s been striking how many well-informed judges have found storylines to love all season.

“While it’s been a logistical challenge like no other to get to this point of the season, and we remain as flexible as we need to be in current circumstances, all eyes will be on the football in the last few weeks of this campaign.”

APL hopes to confirm when the Melbourne City FC vs Newcastle Jets game will be played in the next few days, pending further clarification of the status of the lockdown in Victoria.
