Frozen 2 adds $5.4m to its Australian box office total in second week
Disney’s animated sequel Frozen 2 is continuing its domination in the Australian box office, adding another $5.4m to its running total of $17.3m.
The achievement comes as the film has pushed Disney to pass the US$10bn mark worldwide, the first studio in history to do so.
Frozen 2 aired across 664 screens, far above its nearest competitor, Knives Out, which took $1.82m across 284 screens for its second week. It adds to a running total of $4.98m.
CGI-animated reboot The Addams Family took third place for its debut, bringing in $1.12m across 278 screens. The film is directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, based on the original Addams characters created by Charles Addams. It features the voices of Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloë Grace Moretz, Finn Wolfhard, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, Bette Midler, and Allison Janney.
Ford v Ferrari stuck in fourth position, four weeks after it debuted into the top spot. It took a further $767,419 across 319 screens for a total of $8.46m. It was followed by The Good Liar, which debuted into fifth position with $746,4040 across 282 screens. The British thriller film stars Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen and is based on the novel by Nicholas Searle.
Last Christmas snuck in sixth place with another $611,517 in takings across 253 screens, followed by Charlie’s Angels with $221,551 for its fourth week. Last Christmas has been in cinemas for five weeks.
Joker fell into eight position, 10 weeks since its release, with $194,182 in takings across 126 screens. The film has a box office total of $40.07m in Australia.
Roadshow’s Fisherman’s Friends came in ninth with $157,258 across 209 screens for its third week, followed by the debut of Pat Patni Aur Woh which took $116,056 across 33 screens. The film is an Indian Hindi-language romcom directed by Mudassar Aziz and produced by Renu Ravi Chopra. Pat Patni Aur Woh is a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, and stars Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Panday.

Unfortunately, we receive our graphs from MPDAA directly and you are correct – this one is a bit screwy. I raised that with MPDAA, but as of yet I haven’t had a replacement, so we thought we would just include what we had rather than including nothing at all. I will put a note in the story to make it clear we’re aware of the boozy nature of the graph, and if a new one is supplied I will update the story.
