Fuji signs deal to distribute Technicolor 3D in Aus/NZ

Fujifilm Australia will be the Australasian distributor of Technicolor’s 3D technology, whichallows exhibitors to leverage the base of 35mm projectors already installed, without the need for a digital upgrade.

“Technicolor 3D is the ideal interim solution for independent distributors, cinema owners and exhibitors who want to increase their 3D capacity in an affordable and efficient manner and without spending the kind of money that a full digital 3D conversion requires,” said Fujifilm’s general manager for recording media and motion picture film, Marc Van Agten.

The system utilises a next-generation 3D lens for projectors and film prints, created with digital processes to optimise the image for 35mm 3D projection. Internationally, Technicolor has offered a three-year lens lease agreement with a U$22,500 flat fee for the entire term.

According to Van Agten, the first local Technicolor 3D system will be installed “in an independent cinema in NSW in the near future”, with “more expected to follow”.
