McLeod was one of the founding members of the IPG-owned agency in Sydney when it launched in January 2013, which boasts clients including Telstra, Qantas, Red Bull, Toyota and ANZ on its roster.

It is understood he has landed a new job in San Francisco with another agency network.

His departure comes just four months after Rebecca Bezzina returned to the agency as managing director to replace Jon Holloway, who headed up the office for fifteen months. The agency’s other ECD Hamish Stewart is staying on.

In a statement Bezzina said: “Gav has decided to embark on a new challenge overseas in the New Year. He was a founding member of the R/GA Sydney team and has done an amazing job over the last four years in building the business.

“Gav goes with nothing but our warmest wishes, and leaves us in outstanding health with a fantastic client roster and strong, vibrant creative department that’s in excellent hands.”

Before joining R/GA, South African McLeod was creative director at Whybin\TBWA for just under two years, and spent 11 years at M&C Saatchi as executive creative director in digital and direct.

He becomes the latest senior creative to leave a role, with the last three months seeing Paul Nagy leaving Clemenger BBDO Sydney, Andy DiLallo departing M&C Saatchi, Bob Mackintosh’s leaving Host, and Darren Spiller’s move from DDB Melbourne.

Ben Coulson also departed GPY&R in October, but yesterday resurfaced as ECD of Clems Sydney, replacing Nagy.
