Geography – and chemistry – lessons with Today
5:54am is a tough time to be learning any kind of lesson from a colleague, but that didn’t stop Today’s newly-installed newsreader, Tom Steinfort, from correcting sports presenter Tony Jones when he was detailing the ethnic make-up of the Australian Open crowd.
It was a lesson for Jones in both geography, and (on-air) chemistry.
Jeez, how’s the chemistry over at Today… pic.twitter.com/9sjjTlndQY

Espousing the benefits of the Australian Open’s culturally diverse crowd, Jones said: “I love walking around hearing all the different accents, because so many people come from so many different parts of the world, and it’s just like our own little Europe for two weeks here” – before Steinfort kindly reminded him of a little continent better known as Asia.
Hat-tip to Hunter Smith for capturing the chemistry catastrophe for al of us to see.
