The Girl on the Train arrives first at weekend box office
The Girl on the Train debuted to the top of box office, earning $4m across 272 screens on its first weekend.
Based on the psychological thriller novel by British author Paula Hawkins, The Girl on the Train is directed by Tate Taylor and stars Emily Blunt.
After topping the weekend box office two weeks ago, Tim Burton’s Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children slid into second position with $2.1m.
The debut of disaster movie Deepwater Horizon claimed third place with a local box office of $1.7m across 254 screens, while The Secret Life of Pets continues to perform, slipping to fourth with $1.5m tickets sold across 361 screens.
Finally, The Magnificent Seven dropped from the third position two weeks ago to the fifth position, taking in $1.38m across 325 screens.
