Gogglebox’s popularity helps Ten to 16.6% audience share

Gogglebox, Ten’s reality television program featuring Australian families watching reality TV, was the most watched non-news program for Thursday night TV, helping Ten to a 16.6% overall audience share.

Airing at 8.40pm, Gogglebox also managed to top the key advertising demographics 16-39, 18-49 and 25-54, according to OzTAM’s overnight preliminary metro ratings.

Prior to Gogglebox, Ten aired The Bachelorette which attracted 589,000 metro viewers and took out the second spot in the key advertising demographics.

However, Seven News at 6pm was the most watched program of the evening with 860,000 viewers, edging out Nine News’ metro audience of 790,000.

Despite Ten’s rating success in the key demographics, Nine won the night with an overall audience share of 19.1%.

Seven and Ten tied for second place, both managing an audience share of 16.6%, followed by ABC’s 9.6% and SBS’ 5.4% share.

Across the multi-channels, 7mate was the most watched station with a 6.4% share.
