Google moves $40 million media account to EssenceMediacom

Google has consolidated its local media account with GroupM’s EssenceMediacom ahead of the Christmas break, Mumbrella can reveal.

The media agency was awarded above-the-line media for the digital giant, following a closed pitch process with incumbent, PHD.

The account is understood to be worth in the region of $40 million, adding to EssenceMediacom’s existing remit as agency of record for Google’s digital media.

In 2021, PHD retained Google’s media account locally, in an exception to the digital giant’s global media alignment with GroupM’s Essence.

EssenceMediacom’s win comes as the agency approaches the end of its first year in market, having launched at the start of 2023 following the merger of GroupM’s Essence and Mediacom agency brands.

In September, it retained Uber’s A$235 million media account, following a competitive pitch. The agency was first appointed to the account in 2017.

Mumbrella has contacted PHD for comment.
