Google.org opens its ‘tech for good’ Global Impact Challenge awards
Google’s charitable foundation, Google.org, has opened applications for this year’s Global Impact Challenge.
The annual grants offer non-profits and social enterprises a share of $5.5m to support projects using technology for good. Grants of up to $1m will be available to the winners.

The Fred Hollows Foundation is a previous winner of the prize
Previous Australian winners include the Fred Hollows Foundation’s low-cost mobile camera to detect and prevent blindness caused by diabetes, Infoxchange’s web app called Ask Izzy to connect people experiencing homelessness with social services, and supporting the Great Barrier Reef Foundation to develop autonomous underwater vehicles to help protect the reef.
The Great Barrier Reef Foundation was controversially awarded $444m in the Federal budget earlier this month as part of a $500m package to help deal with the problems facing the Great Barrier Reef.
Shortlisted entrants will be announced in October, with the public being invited to vote for the $1m People’s Choice prize.
I can’t download the application page. Looks like an App. I hate those stupid things.
